My Cross-cultural Experience

There would be a big cross-cultural difference between the US and China. After I came to Columbus, I really felt the difference in many aspects such as food, sports, transportation and study in college. However, my most interested difference is football. American football is the craziest game in the United States of America. I think I am absolutely to be a buckeye because our team of OSU is the best football team in the national collegiate athletic association! In China, there is no opportunity for me to watch a football game lively, let alone for enjoy a game like a festival. So I do not know the rule and tradition any more. But now I am a buckeye, I will become a new fan of OSU. Yesterday, the first game was held. The great buckeyes defeated Miami 56-10. “It is a Good Day for Ohio State Football.” Our new coach Urban Meyer commented. In China, we believe the victory of the first game is a good omen for the following game. I believe he can lead us to win the champion again!

It was so hot that I did not get the ticket of the game yesterday so I just watched the game on TV in the lobby of dormitory. So many fans stood around or in the bar, clapping and cheering for our team. It was really excited. Everyone was in red wherever, so I was proud of OSU. I can understand the meaning of that Saturday because it was not only a game but also a festival for every buckeye. Children, lady, gentleman were all in red. I never felt  like yesterday. There will some teams which we will versus such as Nebraska, Michigan State and Michigan. I think I will immerse myself into the atmosphere. I need to learn more about the traditions and know about rules totally such as I cannot wear a yellow T-shirt when we versus Michigan or what is touch down? The ticket of OSU vs. Michigan was nearly sold out. And I hope we can beat MSU as well because I have many friends in that university. My friend will be my “enemy” at that time so it must be fun when we argue on the Facebook and Twitter. I think it is easy for me get involved and enjoy it very well.

  1. How is it different from other sports you have experienced? What is the biggest difference?
