Plagiarism
is a hot topic which is in the education. Especially, international students
have this problem. However, there are a lot of reasons for international
students to have plagiarism. For example, Elizabeth Redden in " Cheating
Across cultures" points out some issues come up in some ways: educational
systems, language barriers and educators do to guide international students
well. Moreover, Petra Crosby as cited by Elizabeth Redden, adds knowledge could
present in different situations, some almost same words to be a sentence may be
have different meanings. Therefore, it is a point in language barriers, also in
cultures. And it is unconscious. Regardless, Chinese educational system is
substantially different from western educational system. In China, use some
beautiful sentences copied on the internet could make the article better and
get a good grade, but it is called copyright infringement in USA. Besides,
Jonathan Zittrain in "Salon.com" said "Unconscious copying may
still run afoul of the law". In other words, use someone else's work
instead of writing where they are from is plagiarism, whether there is a
conscious or conscious, it "still run afoul of the law".
In contrast,
plagiarism sometimes could be forgiven. Alan Brown finds that" source
amnesia", from his words" When most of us copy others
unintentionally, there are minimal consequences beyond irritation on the part of
the plagiarized individual". Therefore, just some common problems not
"run afoul of the law".
Begin with the counter-argument and explain it in your own words. Source amnesia does not relate to the issue of culture.
