DST Script. How to become a “party animal”?
As
the title shows, I want to discuss the way to get involved in the American party
life. However I am an international student, so I am learning. Most importantly,
I want to share some interesting problems that I faced during not only in
party. Due to the fact that I do not find all the solutions out, I want to
share with people and want people to help me or them out from this problem.
First of all, I want to present some
interesting differences between Chinese party and American party. The difference
which immediately comes to mind is the type of people that join in the party. Specifically
speaking, most people who join into the party are familiar with each other and
people know strangers from other friends’ introduce. In contrast, in the most
of formal American party, people are invited by the holder to go into the party
even some of them are strangers. Due to this phenomenon, if an international
student wants to join the American party, they can have some difficulties to
participate. For example, when I first time to take part in an American party
which is held by my roommate’s host family, I feel nervous and I cannot find a
topic to talk with people who I just met. However, I struggle to get out from
tension and figure out way which is that I can pick out topic from some “common
knowledge” ---refer to everything surrounded me and try to come up with
questions. Such as, why you choose this place as your house and what is your dog’s
name. Moreover, in that party, there is big problem which is that sometime I
cannot understand the American special language use. For example, ASAP referred
to “as soon as possible” and PMS referred the recently time is very bad and
annoying. Moreover, I want to talk more about this kind of language use. For
example, FAQ is referred to Frequent Asked Question, additionally “U” and “Cuz”
are used to instead the “You” and “Cause”. In order to get quick used to
American special language, it is impossible to figure to all them out, which I
try to achieve, so I know I have a long way to move in.
Second
difference is place and content that the party uses in two countries. In China,
most people choose outside place to have party and they often choose some
restaurants outside and most of time friends often gossiping and talking about
people’s interests. However in American party, people always choose their home
for the party. Moreover the game in the party is different; people play a game which
is throw the sandy bags into the whole and try to get 21 grades. In contrast,
people in China play in a different way which is card boarding game.
In
conclusion, some of the problems which I describe before are still confuse me
during the party time. I hope everyone just enjoys their party time and tries
to find o out the way in order to solve the language problem and culture
differences.
nice story, it is a very detailed comparison of two different parties.
