Blog 6 - Writing self reflection

Writing a paper is always a difficult assignment for me, even though I write in my native language, which is Korean.  I think writing is the most challengeable work with a language, because people need to organize their thoughts in writing with their own words.  Since I did not read many books, I was not a good writer, either.  However, writing an article in English is more complex.  I need to consider contents of the writing as well as grammar, proper vocabularies, and sentence structure.  I usually think instinctively in Korean prior to trying to think in English.  Sometimes, it makes some sentences sound unnatural; I also pick words that are not used in these days or use verbs with incorrect nouns.  For example, when I wrote my digital story, I used a lot of words in a wrong way or awkwardly.  I guess this is because I memorized words without reading examples; so, I do not know exactly when to use words.  I started my digital writing with brainstorming.  I wrote everything in my head to find a good idea among a lot of ideas.  When I chose one, I thought ‘which is meaningful and easy to deliver with pictures’.  Yuhang Yi gave me feedback with my story; however, they were all compliments.  When I search the history between Korea and Japan on the internet to describe what happened, I tried to paraphrase with my own words to avoid plagiarism and respect the effort of the writer; even though finally I did not use them in my writing.  However, I still do not know exactly which common knowledge is and which the source that I need to give credits is.
