Blog8 Finding Forrester

Finding Forrester told us a story about self-discovery. Jamal Wallace, a 16-year old African-American boy with talent in writing and basketball, challenged by one of his friends to get in the apartment of writer William Forrester and bring something from there. Jamal shocked by the yelling and ran out of the apartment; however, he left his backpack there. Later, he got his backpack back from Forrester and surprisingly found that his articles were read and commented by Forrester. Jamal went back and asked Forrester if Forrester could read more his articles. Then they started teaching & learning privately in Forrester’s apartment. Meanwhile, Jamal got a chance going to a private school because of his basketball skill, but his new professor did not believe the writing ability he shown in the class. The relationship between Jamal and Forrester grown as the teaching continued, Jamal encouraged Forrester to go out of the apartment and gave him a special birthday present, they are more than teacher and student, they became family. In the end, Forrester came out of his apartment and proved Jamal’s writing skill in his high school.
As I said at beginning, this movie is about self-discovery, with the help of Forrester, Jamal finally realized his talent in writing and chose a different way. My favorite part in this movie is Jamal took Forrester in the stadium and celebrated Forrester’s birthday. Forrester finally told us the truth why he stopped writing. He thought that he caused his brother’s death because he let him driving after he drunk. The only thing nurse could do was talking about his book when his brother dying. Forrester stopped writing and started living in his apartment. So I think Forrester gave Jamal help with his writing but Jamal provided more help with Forrester’s life, Jamal changed Forrester’s life.
