Blog 8 Finding Forrester

In the 1970's~1980's of Bronx, NYC, a 16 years old high school African-American boy, Jamal Wallace meet an old man who is a reclusive Pulitzer Proze-wining novelist, William Forrester by chance and both of them learn lessons from each other about life and important precious friendship. At first, Jamal shows his talent in playing basketball in front of of Forrester's apartment and Jamal was attracted to the "mysterious" apartment. One day, he decide to explore the apartment and his lost his backpack. The backpack was returned to Jamal through by window. To Jamal's surprise, he found that Forrest had correct his hand writing book like a stick-to-itive teacher. Soon, Jamal went to Forrester's apartment and said sorry to him, however, Forrester asked Jamal to write a 5000 words about why he could stay out or to get out of the apartment. Then, Forrester started to teach Jamal how to write,"write your first draft with your heart, you write with your head". They began to talk often and a friend ship formed by the time goes. Once Jamal invite Forrest hang out and Jamal brought him to the baseball stadium as Forrester's birthday present. Meanwhile Jamal's writing skill improved a lot even he got praise of his high school teacher.Jamal got a chance got to a private school with scholarship but his new teacher Crawford was a man who don't believe he could write a good essay. So finally Forrester went to the school and proved that Jamal's writing is made by himself.
For me, I think the movie is good at setting and telling a touched friendship, the plot is very realistic, I notice that the background of that time is very chaotic and full of crime society, so it is more rare for two different kind person have a such good experience and emotion of the friendship. I like Forrester much more, he is kind to correct a stranger's book, he is willing to teach how to write for a boy he never know before, Also, he is a person with so much glamour. He is vivid, drinking whisky, shoot a film. One thing I always interested in is their accent, Jamal speak Africa-Amercia English and Forrester speak Scottish English but it is no influence for their friendship and they don't hate each other becaose of the race or something else. From my  experience, it is easily for two Chinese people make a conflict due to speak different accent cause accent means your background. Finding Forrester helps me a lot understanding the meaning of friendship. For the theme, I think it is important to find yourself, in the film, Jamal and Forrester both reach their position, Jamal find his talent in writing and playing basketball, Forrester is not alone anymore. I think it is a big question for noways day people to think about: Are you put yourself as a good position and find your talent like Jamal?
