Hello Class,
The purpose of this blog is to introduce yourself to your classmates. Since we will use images a lot in this class and be doing a final video project, I ask that you also include a meaningful and appropriate image with your blog. Please tell us a little about yourself, your family(including cultural background) as well as your goals and interests.
As I told you in class, I am a lecturer here at OSU in the composition department. I have taught full-time and part-time since I began in 2002-2003 teaching in Dalian, China. I lived there with my family for 10 months. Actually, my wife is Korean-American but I felt called to go to China and have been there several times. We have also been to South Korea several times as well as short visits in South America and Thailand. I love to travel and take pictures of my adventures around the world.
We have a two culture family (hybrid!) so sometimes we look Asian and the other times we are pretty much an American family although the majority of our meals tend to Korean or Chinese, lots of rice, seafood, and kimchee!
This picture shows our most recent trip out west to the Grand Canyon, as well as Utah and Wyoming. We spent a couple of weeks, driving from park to park and hiking and enjoying the beauty of the frontier land where many voyaged out to begin a new life. This trip symbolizes many new steps for our family as both of our boys, Joe and Dan, are in college this year, the former at OSU and the latter attending Cedarville University.
I graduated from OSU in 2008 with my Master’s in Foreign and Second Language Education, specifically in teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL). I learned applied linguistics as well as quantitative research skills. I like teaching these courses where we can learn how culture impacts our writing as well as helping students create and then view digital stories. I teach both undergraduate and graduate writing courses and am also doing studies in grammar pedagogy and computers in business application.
Please go ahead and write your own blog. We are mostly concerned about your writing a lot about the topic (yourself) so don’t worry about having perfect grammar, but do try to organize and explain your thoughts. (250-300 words)
