Blog #2 Cross-Cultural Experience

Go out and experience some aspect of culture in Columbus. It can be a restaurant, sporting event, show, OSU club or activity, or a description of something you ahve done here at OSU. Just go and experience some cultural event. Then tell us in a paragraph or so what it was, what you did there, and how it was meaningful or interesting to you. Evaluate your experience. Was it fun? Exciting? How was it different from other activities you have experienced before? Would you recommend it to one of your classmates? Why or why not? Try to write at least 2 paragraphs (250-300 words and include a picture of some aspect of this event.)

Self Introduction.

Hi.  My name is Wonhee Hwang.  In my name, “Won” means beautiful and “Hee” means lucky.  My parents want me to be a beautiful and lucky girl. 

I am a sophomore and a transfer student from Seoul, Korea.  I had lived in Seoul for 18 years.  I have been to India, China and Japan for traveling.  This is my first time to come to America.  It has been 6 months since I came here.  Before I came to Columbus, I lived in Toledo with my family.

I have a younger sister and a younger brother.  I am the oldest.  They have been attending their school in Toledo.  My younger sister is a sophomore in High school, and my younger brother is 6^th grade.  My dad works in the company “Hyundai” and my mom was a Korean literature teacher in junior high school in Korea.   

I study Business in OSU, but I did not decide the specialization yet.  However, I also like the Mathematic. I would like to study the part which has close connection with Math.  When I was a freshman in Korea, I took the “Introduction to Management”.  I was pretty impressive with the leadership theory of the Ohio State University in Business.  This is one of reasons I chose OSU for my future.   

In the future, I want to work for the education business.  I think the education can make the gap between rich and poor narrow.  I desire to provide the education to the poor who have strong will to change their situation.  So, I want to make the Korea society flexible, which means the poor have the opportunity to enter the high society through the education.

My favorite food is “Bibimbab” which is a Korean dish.  It has various kinds of vegetable, a fried egg and red pepper sauce on the rice.  It is very healthy and delicious.  I like to meet people, listen to music and sing songs.  I do not like to adapt in new place. I have a little bit hard time these days.  However, I believe I will have good time and make wonderful memories in OSU.

Hello, there! First, I am excited to create my own blog and say hello to you guys. By the way, my name is Sangmyung Lee and I am from South korea.

Now, I start talking about myself more. Simply, I am a curious person and I am not afraid of facing new experience and circumstance. Before starting study here in OSU and U.S.A as well, I had studied in international college in Malaysia for two and half years. Different from that of Korea, Malaysia was full of diversity in terms of races and religions. The experience in Malaysia definitely broadened my horizon to the big world and made me get over racism and religious prejudice. What’s more, I just loved to spend time and communicated with people from all around the world. This is the picture, when I was in Malaysia. That is the day I joined Malaysian traditional wedding after I did volunteer activity in alai village.

Speaking of my family, I have five family members including lovely puppy( I am really sorry that puppy is not in picture.) and I am the youngest. The most people say that I closely resemble my father such as round face. My mother is like a friend I can share all about my life and older sister is just a person next to my heart. This picture all my family members are riding a horse was taken in Jeju island in korea.

About my career, since I am interested in numbers, I am majoring in actuarial science. The last goal in my study is being an actuary, furthermore, I am eager to work in many different countries around the globe. Lastly, this English class would be a great time to learn and get along with classmates!

Hello everyone, my self introduction!

                         Nice to meet you, GUYS !

         Hello everyone, I am glad to introduce myself. My name is Jiaxing Sun and you may call me Jason. There are two main exciting things happened in my life this year. First I got my OSU offer during the Spring Festival. My parents were very thrilled about my offer. I also got spare time before I came to the U.S. I spent this time traveling to Lijiang which is an old history city of Yunan province.

     

        Here is my photo about my trip in Lijiang. The name of the old city center called “Big waterwheel “you see there is a waterwheel in my picture, these waterwheels in Lijiang were used to plant crops. By the way, I like traveling very much. I have been to the U.S. last year during my summer camp. I was the group leader with my classmates in the two weeks trip.                                                       

        

The first week I study in a university which name is CBU. (Stand for California Baptist University) At the weekends I visited the Universal Studio in L.A. It is interesting to watch 4D movies. 

The second week I flew to east coast and see a lot of famous scenic spots in New York and Niagara Falls. I think traveling and studying in a place which is different form my hometown is very helpful for me to increase the ability and skills and that is why I choose OSU as my college.

The second exciting thing is     my sister’s wedding. There are five people in my family: my parents and my elder sister and my younger sister. On the May 8^th my sister got married in my hometown, Tangshan. 

As her brother, I bless for her wedding and right now I am very happy to tell you I am going to have a nephew next year!

  Hi,everyone. My name is siyi ren, and i am Pisces.  I have contradictory characters. I have a sunny disposition sometimes, but i will be shy of talking to strangers. When i came to the osu, i thought i need to improve my speaking. My friends are confident chat with new international students which is hard for me to talk with them and i do not know what we can talk about. What's more, when some foreigh friends talked to me, my mind was a blank and could not think of anything that embarreassed me. But i do not have the same problems with chinese new friends. I know i am not confident with my speeking. But i believe give me more time i will make progress.
  Now, let's end that topic and talk about my hometown and my relax time with my friends ii high school. My hometown is a small city, named jiangyin, in jiangsu province. There is a beautiful park called huangshanhu, my friends and i always walked around it and took some pictures to record our happy time. Sometimes we climbed the hill beside the park in the morning and wanted to watch the sunrise. However, getting up earlier was hard for us that we always missed the sunrise. Although we missed that moment, we climbed the hill and kept fit. It was good for girls. I remembered when we climbed the hill, we saw many fireflies in the evening, they surprised us. That was my first time saw them unless in tv play. A lot of good memories always made me think of my friends, and i missed them very much.
  My friends and i also like playing games in our free time. We are all interested in phone softwares. We like editing surprising videos and doing some funny things in some photos. Some videos were scary and scared some girls, made some boys happy. The exciting day should be in high school, we drove 40 minutes to another place to have dinner, then come back. Maybe it's normal in the usa, but it's special in china. That is a part of my high school, and you can konw some about me from my words.

 

Self introduction of Richard

  Hello, my name is Haofei Qin, but I go by Richard. I am from Wuxi, a southern city in China. My hometown has a history of more than two thousand years. It was famous as one of the four biggest rice markets in ancient China, and it is famous for its water pollution recently.

    I love to travel at my leisure time. Many Chinese cites have been my destinations over my last eighteen years, and Sahara Desert would be my ultimate dream of travelling. Last summer vacation, my family went to Dun Huang which locates in north China. The mural of the Mogao Grottoes fascinated me, in its vivid figures. Riding on camels, we went through the spectacular desert where looks like my Sahara Desert. At the same time, we enjoyed delicious noodles and fresh beef there. Without care of my parents, I come here alone for my undergraduate study. I miss them so much.

    Lu Mountain was my second trip last vacation, my friends and I went there for celebrating our graduation of high school. Appreciating landscape was our main activity by day, and playing the Killers of Three Kingdoms and UNO were our favorites at night. We even called ourselves “Card Game Group”. Despite we would go to different universities all over the world, I will never forget my precious memory of high school with these friends, especially with other members of “Card Game Group”.
  I wish I can meet more friends and achieve progress through studying at OSU.

A little story of Liyang

   In 1990s, in a small village of Tianjin China, a little girl was born named 陈利扬 (Liyang Chen). She’s the only child to her parents, and the youngest one in Chens’ family, so they all love her very much. Liyang got three cousin sisters and one cousin brother, they all lived in the same village, grew up together, love each other. To Liyang, her family is her all.



    To be congratulatory, in this October, Liyang’s youngest sister will be married. But Liyang’s very upset because she can’t join the wedding, she studies in America. Not only this once, she also missed her other cousins’ wedding last year, because she studied in Japan. What’s going on here?

    Actually, Liyang’s left home to study abroad since 2010. First, she studied in Waseda University, Tokyo Japan, majored in Peace Studies and City Planning. As an international student, Liyang studied hard and was never behind any native students. She’s also very active to join volunteer groups and traveled a lot with her fellows.

     In 2010, they went to Kenya, stayed with Maasai, planted trees and visited the biggest slum in East Africa. In Japan, instead of plant they cut trees to protect forest. This year, Liyang traveled to Argentina, she’s fascinated by the magnificent nature and hottest culture there! Therefore, Liyang decided to study to a western country, to see more and learn more about western cultures!

    Now, Liyang is an exchange student in OSU. She’s taking English, Spanish, Dancing and Planning classes. In this year, she’ll prepare for graduate school, travel in America with her friends and have a lot of fun!

    These excellent experiences are treasure for Liyang, though she sacrificed her time with family. She believes her cousins will procure true happiness, and so do she.

Self-Introduction

Hello, my name is Yuhang Yi, a young man from China. My hometown is Changsha, the capital of Hunan province. Before my high school senior year, my life was so Chinese style. But since that last year, I have been Americanizing. I went to Idabel, OK as an international exchange student. I stayed with my host family and had been in Idabel High School for a whole school year. My host family was very nice and kind to me and took me to experience a variety of American culture. I made jack o' lantern on the Halloween, learned about the Thanksgiving and enjoyed the Christmas. I even went for deer hunting during the Thanksgiving break. It was awesome, and that was the first time I shot a gun.  As a student, I also had lots of fun in homecoming and prom. And in the end, after a whole year study, I surprisingly got an opportunity to successfully graduate from there. It was a great year. So then I decided to gap a year and prepared to apply for my university. And in this year, I got my driver’s license this summer and had a tour to Thailand in last winter. I love traveling and have been to many places in China. I also like many kinds of sports especially basketball and swimming. And I’d like to watch movies or listen to music for fun.

Appreciating to my parents, I got this opportunity to come to the Ohio State University. They not only gave me financial support, but also affected my major selection. My father works in an import and export food company and my mother is an accountant. So logistics as my major has lots of relationships to business and transporting.

Anyway, I’m glad to have you all as my classmates and I’m looking forward to know each one of you. And as an officially buckeye now, I hope I can have a great college life!

Self Introduction

 Hi, everyone! It's my pleasure to introduce myself to you! My name is Shiqi Tang. Since most American feel hard to pronounce my name, you can call me Shikey as well.

To this self-intro, I'd like to first talk about my hometown. My hometown is a not big city in China called Changsha. Even though it's not good enough to be defined as a international, beautiful city, it's very suitable for living and I love it in my deep heart. I always feel proud of my hometown because of it's importance for modern history. Chairman Mao was born in Changsha! Changsha also has the spiciest food among the whole country (of course part of the reason is the humidity), so basically all people there including me are candid , enthusiastic and passionate. There is also a song named LA MEI ZI to describe this kind of personality! I consider myself easygoing, everyone could be my friend if you want.


As for my interests, I would definitely say traveling! You can see the second picture I post for this blog, and that is from the trip to Maldives last year (I'm the one wears pink sunglasses), I had a wonderful time there. Since I was really young, my mom and dad started taking me to every possible place I could go for a visit. They thinking traveling is the most effective way to learn from different culture and to experience varied lifestyle. I not only did acquire knowledge by traveling around but also got plenty of happiness.

Right now, as you see, I'm studying at Ohio State University to accept higher education. This is my first year of university. I currently major in pre-business, and I plan to major in international business. Wish me luck! I feel thankful that I can meet many new friends here. Can't wait to know you!

Hello everyone! It’s my pleasure to introduce myself to you here. My name is Sunhaonan Wu. But you can call me “Simon” which is a simple name. I am an 18 years old guy from China. I was born in Nanjing and live in there almost 18 years as well. This is my first year in the Ohio State University and my major is economics.

Firstly, I am an open and easygoing man so I really like communicating with new friends especially all my new classmates! Peace is always in my mind. So I never offend other and peace always remind me not to break the balance. Generally speaking, my relationship is good and all my friends like stay with me. Definitely, my parents and I live in harmony all the time.

Furthermore, I have numerous hobbies such as playing basketball, watching movie and etc. Last week, I played basketball with some American guys. I felt so different and tough because they are more strong and fast. I just lose my confidence that day. However, I think it is not bad to join the game even the dramatic rivalry because it is also a good opportunity to hard myself.

Last but not least, talk something about my academic goal in my future study. I really want keep my GPA greater than 3.5 to enter FISHER College of business next year so I need work harder than before. Of course, language always is the big problem for an international student. I must grasp the chance to train my english writing ability. Hope I can perform well everyday.

Hello,I'm KaiLun Jin,I'm a boy with an exotic name who come from a mystery east nation called China.I was born in Hong Kong in 1994.My parents took me to Shanghai when I was four years old that's the year which Hong Kong came back to be a part of the People's Republic of China.Life in the China mainland is also great, it's really good for me to become a family with people from mainland.My dad have some business contacts from United States,so he can come to OSU to see me frequently.

  Before I graduated from high school in China, I decided to study in The Ohio State University,I want to major in the human resource and hope to help my dad in the future.It's a very cool thing to live and study in a foreign country and meet new friends who totally different with people you know before.Now I live in the morrill tower at 21 floor,my room has a great view of the stadium.So maybe i can see football games in my room later.I found there are a lot of squirrels in the campus and I'm always planning to catch one of them to be my pet.

  I'm a big game fan and I always can't help pre-order a lot of games online.If someone also loves action games,RPG or FPS,come find me, maybe we can play together sometime.Now the college life has begun,I have to control my game time.I was so excited when I found there is a GameStop on the High street.

Hello! My name is Jingyun Zhu. My Chinese name symbolizes a piece of serene cloud. My mother hopes me is a sweet, gentle and smart girl. Then she gave me this beautiful name. I also have an English name, Jessie that my teacher gave me. I am very excited to become an Ohio State University’s student. When I received an offer from a university in China, I gave up it. The reason why I gave up it is that I like challenges. I want to try a different kind of education in different language. Studying in overseas’ university can open my worldview and receive worldwide social and communication experience for the future life.

This is my lovely family. My family has four members. My father is in the middle of three who is a very nice man and job is an engineer. My father looks like a gracious man with a smile, but his words are very strict. My mother is an engineer too. Mother and father are both smart people, they are entirely good at physics. Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit any advantages from them. My physics is exceeding terrible. However, I am good at math and calculus, even some friends call me math professor, which is my proud. You can find a lovely girl who sits beside the handsome man in above photo that is me. I pretty love traveling and climbing. Hiking, climbing and camping must be included in my holiday. I often go to mountains through the hiking to feel the beautiful of nature. I am a shopaholic; I usually buy clothes, shoes, watches, sunglasses, cosmetics and handbags. Watching movie is another one of my hobbies. I like action films such as Mission Impossible from series one, to series four and The Bourne legacy. Hero style film is my favorite. For instant: The Spider Man and The Avengers. The last one of my family is a sweet rabbit. Flora is its name. That is very special rabbit, because it has two lovely long and flagging ears. What a sweetheart rabbit it is! It always clings to ask me for food such as strawberry, pawpaw and carrot. It favorites food is strawberry.
